What is it?
CVINETA (Cedar Valley INETA .NET User Group) is a .NET user group and a local chapter of INETA that is holding its first meeting January 13th, 2009 to serve the Cedar Valley area.
Its goal is twofold:
1.       Educate its members on .NET related technologies (ASP.NET, VB.NET, C#.NET, SQL Server, IIS, SharePoint, and other technologies that commonly work with .NET) with an array of presentations geared towards developers as well as project managers, architects, and system administrators.
2.       Provide an environment to foster networking with area IT professionals and students with the goal to promote IT innovation in the Cedar Valley area.
CVINETA presentations will alternate between more traditional .NET topics geared towards developers and broader foundational presentations with project managers, architects, and IT professionals that support and work with the .NET infrastructure (SQL Server, IIS, security, etc…).

Why do I care?
If you are an IT professional, a student of IT, or someone with an interest in .NET technologies then this group will provide a free educational environment to discuss and promote .NET and related systems.
Additionally, it will help you meet and network with other IT professionals and students in the Cedar Valley area with the goal of encouraging information technology innovations and community outreach programs for our local area.

But I'm not a programmer… so again… WHY do I care?
CVINETA is working hard to provide presentation topics that are NOT "just for programmers".  We will alternate roughly every other presentation between a programmer/developer focused topic and a more broad .NET related topic.

Our first presentation will discuss setting up and configuring Visual Studio 2008 and source control for a proper .NET environment; getting you ready and able to begin developing in .NET
The next presentation will switch to a broader view and discuss how to configure supporting systems such as IIS to host ASP.NET applications and data connections to SQL Server to interact with databases.
Both of these presentations will also include content to help project managers and architects gain a better understanding of the benefits and challenges related to working with .NET.
Future presentations will discuss more advanced .NET development methodologies and project management topics based off user feedback and desires.

Where?
The Business and Community Services building at the University of Northern Iowa in Cedar Falls.  This link will take you to UNI's campus map where it is marked as building #58.

Times are tough and this sounds expensive:
INETA .NET user groups are 100% FREE!  For the first time in this area a .NET group is starting up a local chapter.  The presentations given at .NET user groups are the same presentations (often by the exact same people) who present at the expensive Vegas, Florida, and California conferences that often cost over $2,000 for an event.  CVINETA meetings last approximately two hours and are held once a month.  Giving you free access to the same high quality material presented at larger conferences and helping you to network with local IT professionals who work with or share an interest in .NET related technologies.
