| Microsoft Professional Developer Conference Underway and ugPDC on the Way!!! - Tuesday, November 17, 2009As you probably know, the Microsoft Professional Developer Conference has kicked off in Los Angeles today. For three days, the latest Microsoft developer technologies will be on display and the future of the platform will be laid out. PDC is a great conference, but not everyone can make it, but that doesn’t mean you have to be left out! There are two exciting ways you can participate in PDC and keep up to date on the latest and greatest information regarding things like .NET, Visual Studio, Silverlight, and more.
First, you can watch many of the PDC keynotes and sessions online via the PDC website. Just check out http://microsoftpdc.com for a complete listing of keynotes, sessions, and more that will be made available either live or on demand following the conference. This is a great way to get all of the detailed information that is being covered at the conference.
But what if you can’t take the time during the day to watch a session or a keynote? Or maybe you aren’t sure of what you should check out and wish there was a way to just get the more important highlights? Lucky for you, the Cedar Valley .NET User Group will be hosting a user group PDC event in March 2010. This “ugPDC” event will provide you a great way to spend an evening networking with fellow developers while seeing the highlights of the PDC conference.
Our local ugPDC event is delivered in partnership with Microsoft and more details concerning the agenda, registration, and cool prizes will be coming as we get closer to the event. Make sure to put it on your calendar and we look forward to seeing you there!

| Topic for July 7th meeting - Monday, June 08, 2009Thanks to ACES for Sponsoring July's meeting.
Our speaker is: Javier Lozano
Topic: The Zen of ASP.NET and MVC
Topic description:
The Model-View-Controller (MVC) pattern has been around for over 20 years and has predominantly been the pattern-poster-child for web frameworks, such as Ruby on Rails, Struts, SpringMVC and recently ASP.NET.
In this session will we cover how Microsoft's implementation of this pattern on the .NET platform, ASP.NET MVC, changes and enhances the way we approach web development by making it more specific, yet simple at the same time.
If you're a web developer that's either curious or seasoned on this old new thing, this session is definitely worth checking out.
Spearker Bio:
Javier is an ASP Insider and MVP that specializes in ASP.NET, system architecture, and training. During the day, he enjoys helping Imagetek, an enterprise content management provider based in Grimes, Iowa, to deliver quality products and services to their clients.
Outside of work, Javier has helped co-found the Iowa .NET Users Group as well as the Iowa Code Camp along with communities and open source projects.
On his blog, http://blog.lozanotek.com, you can find posts on ASP.NET, development practices, architecture, and design patterns just to name a few topics. Javier is an avid supporter of the community and likes to give back by speaking at user groups, local/regional .NET events, participating in forums, and by writing articles.
In his spare time, Javier loves spending time with his family and enjoys writing about himself in the third person.
